very effect has a cause. That sounds like basic physics until you sit with it long enough to realize it's actually an instruction.
The Hermetic principle of cause and effect, drawn from the Kybalion and the older tradition it distills, states that nothing happens by chance. Every condition you experience traces back to a prior cause. And here is where it gets interesting for manifestation practitioners: most people are living as effects, not as causes.
You Are Already Generating Causes Constantly
The store has a small curated catalog of products that complement this kind of work, if you want tools alongside the reading.
The question is whether you're doing it consciously or by default.
When you move through a day in a low-grade state of anxiety about money, your relationships, your future, that state is not passive. It is generative. You are, in Hermetic terms, sending causes forward into your experience. The outer conditions you encounter later are the effects of those prior inner states.
Neville Goddard was saying this same thing in a different vocabulary. Your assumption is the cause. The fact you accept as real in your inner life becomes the blueprint for what shows up in the outer one. The principle of cause and effect is just the structural explanation underneath that teaching.
This is where a lot of practitioners get stuck. They want to manifest a specific outcome, they do the visualization, they say the affirmations, and then they spend the rest of the day worrying about the opposite. They have introduced two competing causes. The visualization sent one instruction. The worry sent another. And the more emotionally charged cause tends to win.
What "Rising Above Causation" Actually Means
The Kybalion includes a phrase that gets quoted a lot: the wise rise above the plane of cause and effect. People sometimes read this as a kind of detachment, a spiritual bypassing of real life.
But I think it means something more specific. To rise above causation is to become a deliberate generator of causes rather than an unconscious one. You stop being buffeted by conditions you didn't consciously choose. You start choosing the inner state first, on purpose, and watching the outer conditions reorganize around it.
This connects directly to what I was reading in the Kabbalistic tradition, which works with similar ideas from a different angle. If you haven't looked at Kabbalah and Manifestation: An Introduction, that piece covers how the inner structure of reality maps to our creative capacity in ways that complement the Hermetic framework significantly.
The practical upshot is the same: the inner is always prior to the outer. Cause always precedes effect. And you are always, in every moment, in the cause column.
Ask yourself that question directly. What cause am I generating right now?
And the answer won't always be comfortable. Some days you'll clock what's been running underneath the surface and it'll explain a lot. But that recognition is exactly where the work begins. You can interrupt the old cause and introduce a new one. That is the whole practice, really. Small deliberate redirections of inner state, accumulated over time, until the outer life reflects the version of you who already has it.
That's the principle. Applied.
